The current orientation of the research activities of the department can be summarized under the following headings:

• Modeling and computational simulation of electromagnetic and multi-physics coupled field problems ("Computational Electromagnetics")
• Analytical and quasianalytical methods for the computation of electromagnetic fields
• Software implementation of the mathematical formulations
• Development, implementation and optimization of numerical solution algorithms for electromagnetic field problems
• Solving complex technical electromagnetic field problems from technical applications and natural sciences
• Simulation of complex systems of electrical power transmission technology
• Numerical EMC studies in complex technical systems, e.g. in automotive engineering
• Numerical dosimetry of biological organisms in complex electromagnetic exposure situations, e.g., for occupational health and safety investigations
